David Didn’t Ask His Brothers | A Hidden Lesson Before Goliath | John Giftah | Christian Sermon
Tonight's Episode
In First Book of Samuel 17, when David arrived at the battlefield, Goliath came out and taunted the armies of Israel.David began asking the soldiers about what would be done for the man who defeated Goliath. Interestingly, even though David’s own brothers were part of the army, the Bible shows that he asked other people in the camp instead of asking his brothers.
This detail reveals an important lesson.
Sometimes the people closest to us may not recognize the opportunity or the calling GOD has placed before us. In fact, when David’s brother Eliab later heard David speaking, he criticized and discouraged him.
David did not allow those familiar voices to shut down the possibility of what GOD was about to do.
In this episode of Fuel for the Soul with John Giftah, learn how to discern whose voices to listen to and how not to let discouraging voices keep you from stepping into your moment of destiny.
Sometimes the conversation that opens your breakthrough may come from an unexpected place.

Speaker 1: Welcome to Fuel for the Soul with John Gifta.
Speaker 2: Hello everyone, Welcome to this edition of the Fuel for
Speaker 2: the Soul with John gift of podcast. As you would
Speaker 2: have checked out in the last couple of episodes or
Speaker 2: if you're new today, I just want to let you
Speaker 2: know that this week we are learning some lessons, powerful
Speaker 2: lessons that we can incurgate in our life from the
Speaker 2: Life of David from for Samuel chapter seventeen. I really
Speaker 2: recommend you to go back and listen to these because
Speaker 2: these are powerful truths that will help you and just
Speaker 2: pray that the Lord will give you the grace to
Speaker 2: inculcate them in your life as well. So today I'm
Speaker 2: going to share something that really caught my attention. I
Speaker 2: really want to share this with you because I believe
Speaker 2: that when I looked at this, this was something that
Speaker 2: really made me feel like, oh my gosh, why didn't
Speaker 2: I see this before? So this is what I wanted
Speaker 2: to understand. That this is a moment when David is
Speaker 2: going to greet his brothers and give them, you know,
Speaker 2: all of the goodies that his dad has sent him
Speaker 2: to get the report back to his dad on how
Speaker 2: his brothers are doing. And he's the thing I wanted
Speaker 2: to understand. When you look at verse twenty two onwards,
Speaker 2: I'm reading from the Nalty version, it says that David
Speaker 2: left his things with the keeper of supplies and hurried
Speaker 2: out to the ranks to greet his brothers. And verse
Speaker 2: twenty three, as he was talking with them, who is them?
Speaker 2: The brothers? Right? Is talking to the brothers, and that
Speaker 2: is when Colleith comes and taunts. Okay, and then David
Speaker 2: heard him about his usual taunt to the Army of Israel.
Speaker 2: Understand that Colleith has been taunting them and for the
Speaker 2: last forty days and here is a moment when this
Speaker 2: is business as usual, right, colleth coming and taunting. And
Speaker 2: here's the thing I want you to understand. That everybody
Speaker 2: started running and they are saying, have you seen this giant?
Speaker 2: The men asked, he comes in day and day out
Speaker 2: to defile Israel and the king has offered a huge
Speaker 2: dar to anyone who kills him. Okay. Now, verse twenty
Speaker 2: six is what caught my attention. David asked the soldiers
Speaker 2: standing nearby, what will a man get for killing is
Speaker 2: this philistine and ending his defiance of Israel? Okay? And
Speaker 2: if you see later on as well, he goes and
Speaker 2: talks to the other army men, the people around on
Speaker 2: what is the reward and so on and so forth,
Speaker 2: and to a point where in verse twenty eight is
Speaker 2: oldest brother come her years and talking to the men,
Speaker 2: and he gets hangry. So what really got my attention
Speaker 2: here is that David right was talking to his brothers
Speaker 2: who were also in the army, by the way, right,
Speaker 2: he was talking to them who were also in the army.
Speaker 2: And then that's when this disruption comes with Coliath coming
Speaker 2: and daunting. But you see, to get the information David
Speaker 2: did not go and talk to his brothers again and
Speaker 2: to ask for information. He didn't ask them what is
Speaker 2: the reward for the one who kills this man who's
Speaker 2: defiling Israel. He is inn't ask his brothers. He asked
Speaker 2: the others. Are you getting what I'm saying? This is
Speaker 2: so important, guys, because even though his brothers were the
Speaker 2: ones he was associated with. I mean, of course they were,
Speaker 2: you know, relatives, right, the siblings. He's not asking his
Speaker 2: brothers about the reward. He's not asking the brothers about
Speaker 2: the situation. What is he doing? He's asking others about it? Right.
Speaker 2: In fact, not only that he goes and asks, even
Speaker 2: if you see verse thirteen says he walked over to
Speaker 2: some others and ask the same question and receive the
Speaker 2: same answer. So I want you to understand he went
Speaker 2: around talking to different people about this situation with Goliath,
Speaker 2: but he didn't talk to his brothers about it, even
Speaker 2: though his brothers were also in the army. Right, what
Speaker 2: I wanted to understand is you've got to know whom
Speaker 2: to talk to about certain things. They can be your
Speaker 2: own family, they can be your own close ones, they
Speaker 2: can be your own siblings, they can be your own
Speaker 2: sometimes even parans or spouse in some sad cases. Or
Speaker 2: it can be your own kit and kin, your close ones,
Speaker 2: your own close friends. But the problem is that they
Speaker 2: don't see the calling God has placed in you. Because
Speaker 2: you see, like I said in verse twenty eight, his
Speaker 2: own brother belittle diim, his own brother. They're not believe
Speaker 2: in him. His own brother was against him. His own
Speaker 2: brother discouraged him. His own brother did not stand and
Speaker 2: support and say, hey, he'll be your cheerleader, David, come on,
Speaker 2: you've got to call you. Let's do this. He didn't
Speaker 2: do it. His own brother was against So I wanted
Speaker 2: to understand this. David knew the hostility that he grew
Speaker 2: up with, so he did not go and share or
Speaker 2: talk to his brothers about it. He talked to people
Speaker 2: who were neutral. He talked to other people about this.
Speaker 2: So what I wanted to understand is sometimes you should
Speaker 2: know that even if somebody is close to you, if
Speaker 2: they are not for you, or if they will discourage
Speaker 2: or stop you from your calling, you should not share
Speaker 2: things with them. You should know what to talk to
Speaker 2: whom about what, because you see, sometimes we have this thing, Oh,
Speaker 2: how can I hide this from family? But what if
Speaker 2: your own family is against what God has placed in you?
Speaker 2: What if your own family does not stand with what
Speaker 2: God has put in you? What if your own family
Speaker 2: there's not see the real calling that God has given you.
Speaker 2: You can't allow them to choke your calling. You should not.
Speaker 2: If David listened to his brothers, he would have just
Speaker 2: left in the in the back round. If he had
Speaker 2: allowed Iliev's words to define him, he would have left
Speaker 2: with discouragement. But he did not. Why he went around
Speaker 2: talking to other people. He went around talking to other men,
Speaker 2: other army men, and while he was talking, the news
Speaker 2: went to King Saul about David. Okay, so this is
Speaker 2: the lesson I want to share with each one of
Speaker 2: us that we need to be careful on how we
Speaker 2: keep boundaries with people, even if it's our own close ones,
Speaker 2: and learn to share what needs to.
Speaker 1: Be shared with the right people.
Speaker 2: Right because he shared, he asked this reward system with
Speaker 2: other people who would not come in this guy. They
Speaker 2: would not bother like this guy wants to try. He's
Speaker 2: not my I don't even know who he is. If
Speaker 2: he wants to risk his life, be foolish. I don't care.
Speaker 2: So they were people who were neutral, so he didn't
Speaker 2: bother about them at all, right, and they also did
Speaker 2: not bother about him, whereas Iliev was not like that.
Speaker 2: David's brothers always you know, we're against David in the
Speaker 2: even in the previous chapter. You see in chapter sixteen
Speaker 2: that David was even forgotten when King I mean Prophet
Speaker 2: Samuel wanted to annoy the next king, and Jesse had
Speaker 2: to line up all the sons. He forgot David. That's
Speaker 2: how David was treated. But yeah, David knew that he
Speaker 2: if he talked to his brothers about this, they're going
Speaker 2: to talk him out of this. That's why he spoke
Speaker 2: to other people instead of speaking to his own brothers.
Speaker 2: So today, that's a challenge I want to leave with
Speaker 2: you that, even if you're close with certain people, David
Speaker 2: was talking to his brothers, but when he came to
Speaker 2: a decision about his destiny, he did not talk to
Speaker 2: his brothers. He went and spoke to somebody else who
Speaker 2: would not stop him from what God had put in him.
Speaker 2: So that's a challenge I want to leave with you, guys.
Speaker 2: I hope this is a blessing and I will catch
Speaker 2: up with you very soon tomorrow God bless you.
