Stop Being Hard on Yourself with Unrealistic Expectations | Inspirational Christian Sermon | John Giftah
Tonight's Episode
Many times we put unrealistic expectations on ourselves—trying to do everything, be everything, and please everyone. But JESUS said of the woman who poured perfume on His feet, “She did what she could” (Mark 14:8). In the parable of the talents, each person was given according to their ability. GOD doesn’t expect you to do what someone else can do; He only asks you to do what YOU can do with what He’s given you. This episode will help you release the pressure, embrace your lane, and find peace in knowing that doing your best is enough when you’re walking with GOD. 🎧

Speaker 1: Welcome to Fuel for the Soul with John GIFTA.
Speaker 2: Hello everyone, Welcome to this edition of the Fuel for
Speaker 2: the Soul with John gift of podcast. And and such a
Speaker 2: joy for me to be with you today because I
Speaker 2: want to share an important word I believe is so
Speaker 2: needed for such a time as I just want you
Speaker 2: to stay tuned for the next couple of minutes, because
Speaker 2: we're living in a time and age where a lot
Speaker 2: of people are living from a place of comparison, where
Speaker 2: they feel intimidated, where they're always in the lookout, where
Speaker 2: they see like, oh my goodness, this person, they've gone
Speaker 2: so far ahead in life. Look at this person, look
Speaker 2: at the fruit in their life, look at what they
Speaker 2: are able to do. Look at my life. No matter
Speaker 2: how much time I spend, no matter how much of
Speaker 2: money I'm investing much I'm putting my heart and soul
Speaker 2: into this, but still look at the results that I'm getting,
Speaker 2: and look at the results somebody else is getting. And
Speaker 2: I want to share an important word with you, guys,
Speaker 2: because I believe that we're living in a time when
Speaker 2: people can look at the best outputs on social media
Speaker 2: and they can feel intimidated, or they can look at
Speaker 2: somebody else, you know, really flying ahead in life and
Speaker 2: progressing in life, and they feel like, oh my goodness,
Speaker 2: what is happening with my life? Because I believe this
Speaker 2: is so important for such a time as this, I'm
Speaker 2: going to share a few scriptures and I'm going to
Speaker 2: get this started. The first things. First time, I want
Speaker 2: to share with you an important principle from Matthew twenty five.
Speaker 2: I'm sure you know this parable where the master is
Speaker 2: going on a long quacation or a holiday, is going
Speaker 2: away for a long time, and he calls in three
Speaker 2: of his servants and he gives them different gifts or talents. Okay,
Speaker 2: different translations or different versions of the same parable talk
Speaker 2: about it as you know that he gave them bags
Speaker 2: of gold, or he gave them talents, or he gave
Speaker 2: them gifts, whatever it is. But there's an important principle
Speaker 2: to note, all right. It says in Matthew twenty five,
Speaker 2: verse fifteen to one, he gave five bags of gold,
Speaker 2: to another he gave two bags, and to another he
Speaker 2: gave one bag. But the key is in the next
Speaker 2: phrase of the same verse, and it says each according
Speaker 2: to his ability. I want you to understand this important truth, guys,
Speaker 2: that God is not, you know, like a partial God.
Speaker 2: He's not like you know what, I like you so much,
Speaker 2: I'm going to give you more. I don't like you
Speaker 2: so much, I'm not going to give you enough. That's
Speaker 2: not who God is. God gives us in accordance to
Speaker 2: our ability, you know, as much as now, for instance,
Speaker 2: as a minister, as somebody who has huge, big visions
Speaker 2: for my life. You know, I've seen ministering in stadiums
Speaker 2: and crusades and conferences, and you know that's my design.
Speaker 2: That's the vision God has shown me. And I'm praying
Speaker 2: and working in that direction for my life. But the
Speaker 2: truth of the matter is, imagine if I'm invited to
Speaker 2: speak at the Passion Confidence tomorrow, like for instance, right
Speaker 2: or the Hillsound Conference or any any huge international conference
Speaker 2: right now, you know, the question is am I really
Speaker 2: going to handle the opportunity? Well? Will I really be
Speaker 2: able to meet the expectations of that platform if I'm
Speaker 2: given the chance today? You know what I mean? So
Speaker 2: God always takes us through the process is when he
Speaker 2: gives us one to see how we are faithful in
Speaker 2: the little, only when we are faithful in the one,
Speaker 2: so that we make the one into two, And then
Speaker 2: He entrusts us and trusts us with two so that
Speaker 2: we can be faithful with two so that we will
Speaker 2: produce four. You know, that's the way God builds us up.
Speaker 2: That's the way God entrusts us with more because He
Speaker 2: looks at how we are handling the little. You know.
Speaker 2: You know today, I want you to understand if you're
Speaker 2: feeling like intimidated, look at this person. They had fire
Speaker 2: and they made it to ten, and look at me,
Speaker 2: I'm stuck with one. My question is what are you
Speaker 2: doing with the one? Are you faithful with that one?
Speaker 2: The question is, you know, are you understanding that that
Speaker 2: one is the ability that you have and that's why
Speaker 2: you've been entrusted with that one. You know, there could
Speaker 2: be somebody who didn't even get that one. At least
Speaker 2: you got that one, you know what I mean, Like,
Speaker 2: I want you to have that perspective today. You know
Speaker 2: that God is not going to expect the one with
Speaker 2: one who got one to produce ten. You know, he
Speaker 2: expects the one to at least make it too. You know,
Speaker 2: God is not going to expect you, in the level
Speaker 2: that you're in to produce the output somebody else who's
Speaker 2: far off in life, who has you know, already been
Speaker 2: entrusted with more. You know, he's not going to expect
Speaker 2: you to do that. He's only going to expect you
Speaker 2: to do what you can do. You know, there's a
Speaker 2: very important verse. I just love it so much and
Speaker 2: I always come back to it. It's found in Mark fourteen,
Speaker 2: verse eight. Okay, Mark fourteen. This is a moment where
Speaker 2: you know, a lady comes and annoys Jesus with a
Speaker 2: very costly perfume. And there were those who were critical
Speaker 2: of it, and they said, oh, come on, this money
Speaker 2: can be spent on the poor and all of these things.
Speaker 2: But verse eight is a very very powerful verse because
Speaker 2: I always go back to this. I love this so much,
Speaker 2: and I really challenge you to do that. You know,
Speaker 2: when you look at the enabled version of this verse,
Speaker 2: it says Jesus responds to the critics, and he says,
Speaker 2: she did what she could. That's the first part of
Speaker 2: this verse, she did what she could. In another translation,
Speaker 2: it says she has done what she could. My question
Speaker 2: to you is are you doing what you can do?
Speaker 2: If you have done or if you're doing what you
Speaker 2: can do, that's more than enough. God is not going
Speaker 2: to expect you to do something beyond He's not going
Speaker 2: to expect you who has one to produce ten. He's
Speaker 2: going to expect you who has one to make it
Speaker 2: to two. If you have two, he's not asking you
Speaker 2: to compare yourself with somebody who has five, who has
Speaker 2: made it to ten. You're not called to compare your
Speaker 2: output with somebody else's output because they had a different
Speaker 2: starting point, they have gotten a different set of experiences,
Speaker 2: different set of backing, maybe financial backing. Maybe they have
Speaker 2: the family support, you know, maybe they have something that
Speaker 2: you don't have. You know, so stop comparing and just
Speaker 2: be faithful with what you have because it's ultimately dependent
Speaker 2: on what you have done with what you can do.
Speaker 2: That's the real question. Now, let me just give you
Speaker 2: an example. For instance, if you take a cup, a
Speaker 2: cup has a limitation on how much it can be
Speaker 2: how much of liquid can be poured into it. Right now,
Speaker 2: if I take a bottle for instance, right, a bottle
Speaker 2: definitely has a greater volume of content that can be
Speaker 2: poured into it. But here's the thing. If I'm trying
Speaker 2: to compare this bottles ability with the cup's ability, it's
Speaker 2: going to be foolish. Why Because the cup has a
Speaker 2: certain ability it can handle this much quantity of liquid,
Speaker 2: and a bottle can handle a greater quantity of liquid. Right,
Speaker 2: If I'm trying to pour in whatever is in the
Speaker 2: bottle into the cup, what's going to happen. There's going
Speaker 2: to be you know, like the cup cannot handle it. Right,
Speaker 2: You get what I'm saying that that's the same principle
Speaker 2: I want you to understand with life, that God, maybe
Speaker 2: somebody has the ability to handle the quantity of a bottle,
Speaker 2: but somebody else has the ability to handle the quantity
Speaker 2: of a cup. But that is how God knows that
Speaker 2: you can handle only certain quantity or and that's why
Speaker 2: He's given you only in accordance to your ability. So
Speaker 2: stop comparing yourself because you have a different purpose than
Speaker 2: somebody else. You know, A cup has a different purpose,
Speaker 2: A bottle has a different purpose. I cannot carry my
Speaker 2: bottle everywhere. I cannot carry my cup everywhere. I can
Speaker 2: use my cup. Maybe if I'm thirsty I want to
Speaker 2: drink something, I can drink a while I'm speaking on
Speaker 2: the podcast. It wouldn't look kosher for me to drink
Speaker 2: from a bottle while I'm speaking on a podcast. Right
Speaker 2: at the same time, if I need to carry water
Speaker 2: or any liquid, you know, from my home to my office,
Speaker 2: I cannot carry it in my cup. I can only
Speaker 2: carry it in my You get what I'm saying, same thing.
Speaker 2: Each one of us have a different purpose and different gift.
Speaker 2: So don't compare yourself with somebody else. But be faithful
Speaker 2: with what you have been given and entrusted, because only
Speaker 2: when you're faithful with that, he will entrust you with more.
Speaker 2: And that's where the pressure will just take off, because
Speaker 2: you don't have to try to perform like Oh, my goodness,
Speaker 2: you know what somebody else is able to carry so much,
Speaker 2: I should also be able to carry so much. No,
Speaker 2: you be faithful in carrying what you are called to carry,
Speaker 2: and God will take care of the rest. Because here
Speaker 2: Us designed you for a purpose. Is dissign somebody else
Speaker 2: for a purpose. And when each of us work out
Speaker 2: in accordance to the ability God has given us whatever
Speaker 2: we can do, then at the end we will receive
Speaker 2: the good words from the Lord. You know that the
Speaker 2: Master tells in the end of the parable he says,
Speaker 2: well done, my good and faithful servant. So that's the
Speaker 2: challenge I want to leave with you, guys. So take
Speaker 2: the pressures off, and I believe that God is going
Speaker 2: to use you mightily, and let this word go forth
Speaker 2: and bless you and entrust you and help you do
Speaker 2: them much more for the Glordia of God. Amen, God
Speaker 2: bless you.
