Finding GOD's Will Sermon Series Part 5 - Channelising Your Desires | John Giftah | Christian Sermon

would know that I've been doing a CDs on finding God's will for our lives

and also how we can walk in the post that God has stole for reach

and every one of us and make the right choices in our life. In

my previous episode, I spoke to you about how there is a link between

our desires and God's will. I encourage you to check that out because that's

very, very important if you need to understand how our desires act as the

guide post which will guide us to words our God given destiny and things like

that as well. So in today's episode, I want to take it forward.

Like I said in my previous episode that I'm going to talk about how

you can channelize your desires because I wanted to understand something here. Some people

just take it to the other extreme where they say, you know what,

I have this desire, I have the stream, I have this wish and

whatever I want to do, whatever I feel like doing, that means high

God will go out and do that. Right. So it is very important

that you channelize your desires. And I want to just start off by reminding

you of a scripture that I shared with you just two episodes ago. But

I want to remind you of it and then take it forward to what I

have in store for you. So one is Colosions three, verse five.

It says, put to death, therefore what is earthly in you? And

in the list it includes the word evil desire. You have to put to

death evil desires. And if you look at James one, verse thirteen to

fifteen, it says, you know, let no one say when he is

tempted, I'm being tempted by God. For God cannot be tempted with evil,

and he himself tempts no one. But each person is tempted when he

is lured and enticed by his own desire. Then this desire, when it

has conceived, gives birth to sin, and sin it is fully grown,

brings forth death. So by these two scriptures you realize that you have to

be cautious. Just because you have a desire does not mean it's from God.

Okay, just because you have a desire doesn't mean you have to just

go by it right away, because there is an element where you can have

evil desires. There is an element where you can actually be enticed by your

own desire, which is not actually the desire that God is put in you.

Okay, because I told you in the episode yesterday in Philippians to thirteen

that it is God who gives you those desires, so that by fulfilling them,

you're fulfill your purpose. But at the same time you have to remember

that there is an element that you have the desires, but you have to

channelize them in the way that you should actually go by. So how will

you channelize if those desires that you have are from the law or are they

evil desires or are they just your own desires which are actually enticing you to

go towards sin. How do you do that? Well, I'm going to

answer that right now. The first and foremost thing you have to remember is

when a desire is from the Lord, it will always align with God's word.

When a desire that you have contradicts the word of God, you can

be rest assured that the desire is not from God, that it is an

evil desire, or it could be your own desire. Now let me give

you an example. Now, okay, if you are somebody who's passionate about

guns and you're passionate about shooting, you cannot just say, you know what,

I have this desire from the Lord to shoot, so I'm going to

become a terrorist or a gunman and go and shoot down on innocent people.

You know that's not the right thing to do. That is not from the

Lord, because the Bible clearly says if you see that in commandments, thou

should not murder. So that there is no class where you can say,

you know what, my desire is to shoot, so I want to go

and kill. You know, some people know. But if you're really passionate

about guns, or you're really passionate or have the desire towards shooting, probably

you can go and join the army and protect your nation. I hope you're

getting what I'm saying. So when you have the desire to shoot, you

have to channelize it. Don't use it for an evil way to destroy people,

but rather use the very desire to protect people. You get what I'm

saying. This is how you have to channelize and ensure that your desire aligns

with the will of God. Right, So what I want you to understand

is you have to always come to a place where you have to introspect and

see every desire that you have. Does it align with the word of God

or does it contradict the word of God. If it contradicts the word of

God, you can just throw it out of the window because it's not from

Lord. The second thing you have to remember about desires is if you have

a desire from the Lord, it will always be to give him the glory.

It will always be to build his kingdom. But if you have a

desire which is all about you, which does not give him the glory,

which is all about you building your own empire, then you can rest assured

that desire is not from the Lord. If you see, for example,

the Bible says in first Guaranteean's ten, verse thirty one. So whatever you

do, do it for the glory of God. So if that desire or

the fulfillment of the desire does not give God the glory, then you can

be rest assured that that desire is not from God. And the next thing,

you have to remember his escalations chapter five or sixteen. So I say,

walk by the spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the

flesh. So how can you be sure that this desire is not from the

flesh, but it is from the spirit. Is to constantly walk in the

spirit. Constantly walk in the spirit. It's not just something you do once

in a while when you feel like it, or when you go to church,

or when you read the Bible or something like that. No, it's

a constant thing. You've got to constantly walk in the spirit. Right,

you have to be in the communion with the spirit. Because you also remember

how Jesus said that the Holy Spirit will lead you into all the truth.

So which means that when you are constantly walking by the Spirit and allowing him

to lead you, allowing him to guide you, he will lead you into

all the truth. And not the evil desires, and not into the things

that does not align with God's word and will. So you have to understand

this third important aspect. That you constantly walk by the spirit in communion with

the Spirit, then you will not have room for evil desires or any desire

of the flesh which that's not aligned with God's work. The next thing I

want to share, which kind of summarizes all the things which I just told

you about, is to slow down. Don't rush when you feel that urge

or you feel that stirring and things like that. You know, take it

slow. You have to be a hundred person sure that you are being led

by the Spirit of God, and then go forward. Now, just let

me give you an example. I think some of you may know this,

but if you had missed my previous episodes, I want to tell you that

I recently started my second official podcast called The Inspiration Hub, which is basically

for inspiration, motivation, and personal development. So it's not a daily podcast

like this, I release once in two or three days. So honestly speaking,

I've been having that desire and urge for more than a year wanting to

do it, but I always kept it down. You know what I mean.

I just pray about it. I just allow God to lead me through

it and things like that. But you know, I just don't jump into

things. What do I do? I pray about it. I just allow

God to lead. And only when God leads and convinces you and takes you

to a place where you know without a shadow of that that this desire is

from the Lord and not your own flesh. It's not just an evil desire.

It's not a desire that you know, contradicts the Word of cour it's

not a desire that does not glorify God. Only when I was very sure

about all of that. Only when I was sure that, okay, this

is something that God is leading me to, then I took that step over

a year to start that podcast. If I wanted, I could have done

this long ago. But I didn't. You know why, because I don't

want to do anything just because, oh you know what I feel like doing

it. Let me just jump into it now. I always take it slow.

Any opportunity, you know, whether it's television or whether there's some other

opportunities that came along the way, I always, you know, take it

slow, because the minute it comes, you just feel like jumping and grabbing

it. But then that's when you have to learn this important thing. You

have to always slow down, pray about it, introspect, is it in

line with God's word? Does it give him the glory? And is the

Spirit leading me in that direction? And then take it forward. That's the

most important thing you have to remember. Whether it's in your personal life or

choices you have to make decisions in life, or whether it is your ministry,

carrier, business relationships. Always remember these three things and take it slow.

And if it's from the Lord, it will be there waiting for you.

Don't rush, don't jump without being sure it's from the Lord. God.
