How Do You Know If GOD Closed the Door? John Giftah | Biblical Teaching
Tonight's Episode
Welcome to Fuel for the Soul with John Giftah, part of our ongoing Acts 12 sermon series exploring GOD’s sovereignty, faith, and discernment in difficult seasons of life. In this rich teaching episode, we dive into the profound question: How do we discern the difference between a “closed door” from GOD and a “contended door” worth persistent prayer and faith?Drawing from the contrasting responses in Acts 12—where James’s death was met with sober acceptance, but the church fervently prayed for Peter’s release—we uncover key spiritual insights. Peter’s situation was different because he had previously received a prophetic word from JESUS (John 21) foretelling his destiny, implying that his imprisonment was not a final closed door but a contested one.
This episode offers practical guidance for anyone facing uncertainty, disappointment, unanswered prayers, or the tension between moving on and continuing to pray. Learn how to recognize a “Rhema word,” divine conviction, or prophetic leading that signals when to hold fast in faith and when to accept GOD’s closure.
John Giftah’s thoughtful teaching encourages believers to cultivate spiritual sensitivity, persevere in prayer, and discern GOD’s will with confidence and peace amid life’s challenges. Perfect for those seeking clarity to navigate delayed promises, spiritual battles, and faith decisions.

Speaker 2: Gifta, helloveryone. Welcome to this edition of the Fuel for
Speaker 2: the Soul with John Gifta Podcast. It's such a joy
Speaker 2: for me to join you guys today as you were
Speaker 2: to have checked out that this week, we're doing a series
Speaker 2: where we're looking at various lessons that we can take
Speaker 2: away from the incident recorded in Acts chapter twelve. Okay,
Speaker 2: we're just looking at the first five verses and there's
Speaker 2: so much to unpack and so much to learn. Yes,
Speaker 2: the thing I want you to understand, to give you
Speaker 2: context of what the situation is about, is that King
Speaker 2: Herod has just arrested Peter, all right, he has just
Speaker 2: arrested Apostle Peter, and he wants to kill the Apostle Peter,
Speaker 2: just like he just killed Apostle James. And he's the
Speaker 2: thing I wanted to understand. The verse five says that
Speaker 2: church prayed very earnestly for Peter. The church prayed very
Speaker 2: earnestly for Peter. Now here's the thing I wanted to understand. Right,
Speaker 2: the Church did not pray for James's resurrection, but they
Speaker 2: prayed for Peter's release. Have you ever thought about this?
Speaker 2: Because the resurrection was still part of the Acts, because
Speaker 2: it still happens even today, guys, in case you're not aware,
Speaker 2: in not just in the charismatic circles, but resurrection of
Speaker 2: the death happens even today. But here's the thing. Resurrection
Speaker 2: was still part of the Book of Acts, right, even
Speaker 2: the Apostle Paul was able to resurrect a dead boy.
Speaker 2: So resurrection is still part of this. And here's the
Speaker 2: thing I wanted to understand. The Church do not pray
Speaker 2: for James's resurrection, but they prayed for Peter's release. Have
Speaker 2: you ever thought about why? Here's the thing This is
Speaker 2: a very important lesson for us to learn right. The
Speaker 2: lesson is how to differentiate between a contented door and
Speaker 2: a closed door, because if you do not know this,
Speaker 2: you will always struggle. You will not know which one
Speaker 2: to fight for, which one to move on knowing it's
Speaker 2: a closed door. Because if you do not know that,
Speaker 2: you will always struggle. And that is what you need
Speaker 2: to understand. How did the church know that the apostle
Speaker 2: James was a closed door? How did the church know
Speaker 2: that the apostle Peter was a contented door that they
Speaker 2: need to pray for earnestly and not think that it's
Speaker 2: also a closed door. Very simple when you look at
Speaker 2: the gospel, according to John chapter twenty one, when you
Speaker 2: look at verses eighteen to nineteen, that's a moment when
Speaker 2: Jesus is talking to the apostle Peter, and this is
Speaker 2: what Jesus is telling him, all right, He says, truly,
Speaker 2: I tell you, when you are younger, you dress yourself
Speaker 2: and when where you want it. But when you are old,
Speaker 2: you will stretch out your hands and someone else will
Speaker 2: dress you and lead you to where you do not
Speaker 2: want to go. And verse nineteen says this, okay, power
Speaker 2: for Jesus said this to indicate the kind of death
Speaker 2: by which Peter would glorify God. Now listen to it. Scafley,
Speaker 2: I want you to highlight the word where Jesus spoke
Speaker 2: to Peter and said, when you are old, you will
Speaker 2: stretch out your hands and someone will else will dress
Speaker 2: you and lead you to places you don't want to go.
Speaker 2: So Jesus was saying to Peter, you will be dying
Speaker 2: as an old man. So there was a divine word,
Speaker 2: a word of promise, a word from the Lord saying
Speaker 2: that Peter would not die now, but he would die
Speaker 2: as an old man. See. I want you to understand.
Speaker 2: The key to differentiate between a closed door and a
Speaker 2: contented door is to get to the place where you're
Speaker 2: so intimate in your walk with the Lord, when you
Speaker 2: are so close to the Lord, when you can hear
Speaker 2: the voice of God, when you are able to discern
Speaker 2: the wine counsel, then you will know that this was
Speaker 2: a closed door. James is a close door. I don't
Speaker 2: know who needs to hear that. Some of you are
Speaker 2: still trying to fight for those which God has closed.
Speaker 2: Stop expecting your James to raise back to life. Change
Speaker 2: is a closed door. At the same time, some of you,
Speaker 2: I've given up on doors that God wants you to
Speaker 2: fight for. Oh Peter, he's also gone in the same
Speaker 2: direction as James. No, God is asking you today to
Speaker 2: understand that this is not a close door. This is
Speaker 2: a contented door that you need to fight for, but
Speaker 2: prayer by taking authority. So today my challenge is the
Speaker 2: same way the Church operated from a place where they
Speaker 2: knew the difference between a closed door and a contented
Speaker 2: door because they were in sync with what the Lord
Speaker 2: was doing, what the Lord has, and what the Lord
Speaker 2: was showing. Today, I pray in every area of your life,
Speaker 2: the Lord will show you you know what this relationship
Speaker 2: is a closed door, move on from it. This particular
Speaker 2: opportunity is a contented door. Fight for it. The Lord
Speaker 2: is reminding you. So when you operate in sync with that,
Speaker 2: that's when you will see the hand of God leading
Speaker 2: you through the best part for your life. I really
Speaker 2: challenge you to leave a comment if you're checking this
Speaker 2: out on YouTube, and I want you to share this
Speaker 2: with someone so that you will be able to encourage
Speaker 2: them and bless them their walk as well. Ahmed, see
Speaker 2: you next time. God bless you.
